Power symbolmental/emotional symbol

Received in Reiki Level I Attunement

Cho-Ky-Rei (Pronounced:  choh-coo-ray) is known as the power symbol.  It is the key that opens the door to start Reiki energy flowing.  Cho Ku Rei is a physical healing symbol & reduces pain.  It is an intelligent energy that goes where it is needed most.  It works well for grounding; cleanses anything from a room to a person; and it removes negative energies.  It can do no harm, so it removes everything you don’t need, as long as you intend it so. Cho-Ku-Rei can manifest things you desire, but will only bring you things that are in accordance with your higher purpose.  You can charge and empower physical objects like food & water. This is great when you ‘re traveling and don’t know where the food has been prepared or who prepared it.  Cho-Ku-Rei is also a protection symbol.  Call upon it, put it into the walls or surround yourself with it, it will keep you from all harmful energy and things that emit it.

Sei-Hei-Ki (pronounced: say-hay-key) is called the mental/emotional symbol in Reiki.  It means “the key of the Universe.”  It is mainly used to heal mental and emotional issues on people, animals (your pets) and environments.  It is also used to eliminate bad or unhealthy habits such as tobacco, food and/or drug addictions.  It removes negative energies from the body and protects the body from negative forces.  It is basically used to place the body of a person in emotional equilibrium.

Attunement = Initiation = Empowerment

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle Japanese method of energetic bodywork that promotes balance, health and wholeness. Reiki is used primarily for stress reduction and relaxation. It is a therapeutic technique that gently assists people with relaxing into deeply meditative states which support the body’s innate capacity for healing stresses on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Reiki is also a method for clearing and balancing the body’s subtle energy systems. Reiki is an “energy technique” because it is based on the principle of ki or “life force energy” flowing through the body. Blocks or stagnation of ki result in various forms of mental, emotional and physical dis-ease. Reiki helps us maintain or restore a healthy flow of ki, and healthy ki nourishes our physical body and helps to balance our mental and emotional energy.

What does the word “Reiki” mean?
The word Reiki comes from two Japanese characters Rei and KiRei can be interpreted to mean “higher knowledge”, “spiritual consciousness” or “Divine Wisdom”. Ki means the same thing as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Ti or Ki in Hawaiian. Ki is “life energy”, “the vital life force”, “universal life force” or “the breath of life”. Reiki can be defined as “spiritually guided life-force energy”. The word Reiki may also be translated as “Holy Spirit”.

Can Reiki cause harm?
No. Reiki can never cause harm because by its very nature it is pure and eternal loving, healing energy. Reiki practitioners do not attempt to manipulate or direct this energy, but are trained to simply sense the energy and act as a clear and open channel so that the Rei or Wisdom part of the energy can assess where the person most needs Ki (life-force-energy /the-breath-of-life) in order to clear energetic blocks and heal.

What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle, deeply relaxing and meditative practice that is excellent at relieving stress. Reiki can help the brain reach Alpha and Theta wave states. Alpha states are deeply relaxing and stress-relieving. Theta states are especially helpful at allowing spontaneous healing and flashes of insight to occur. Reiki also cleanses and balances the energetic systems of the subtle body (i.e.: chakras, nadis, meridians) and assists with deepening self-knowledge, spiritual connection, and positive outlook on life. Reiki compliments other therapeutic techniques and medical treatments, and has been effective in helping many illnesses, both by enhancing the beneficial effects of medical treatments and relieving unpleasant side effects.

Reiki can:
• Assist the body in cleansing toxins
• Accelerate physical healing
• Balance the body’s subtle energy fields
• Help heal and improve relationships
• Assist in manifesting goals
• Enhance creativity
• Assist with life transitions
• Help awaken Inner-Knowing and The Healer Within
• Support you in raising your consciousness to a more Awakened state
• Assist you in elevating your communications with others to the Higher-Self level
• Help you discern the appropriate next step on your spiritual path
• Assist in the process of spiritual transition
• Support you to align with your Divine Purpose
• Help a mother and child through pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum

Is Reiki safe during pregnancy?
Yes, Reiki is safe during all stages of pregnancy. Pregnancy is a very special time in a woman’s life, yet it’s fraught with tremendous physical, hormonal and emotional changes. Reiki helps support a woman through the challenges of pregnancy and the anxieties of impending motherhood, in order to help her fully experience the joy, confidence, and soulful bonding with her baby that she deserves during this miraculous time. Babies are happier and healthier when mommy feels balanced, positive, empowered and prepared to experience the miracle of childbirth.

Reiki during pregnancy can be used to address stress, anxiety, fear, depression, nausea, morning sickness, fatigue, tension, aches, pains and emotional upset. It can also be helpful for women who experienced a birth trauma (or other traumas) in the past, by helping to heal old emotional wounds and prepare the mother’s physical and energetic body to be clear and open for the birthing process.

After birth, Reiki can help bring balance to continuing hormonal changes and the roller-coaster ride of adjusting to a new baby. In general, moms have who used Reiki during and after pregnancy seem to have an easier time transitioning into motherhood and their babies also seem to more peacefully adjust to the outside world.

What are the Reiki Ideals?
The Reiki ideals (values, ethics) are basically: to spend time each day in some form of prayer or meditation, to invite happiness into your heart, to release anger, to let go of worry, to practice being filled with gratitude, to devote yourself lovingly to your work, and to be kind to all people. Obviously, practicing these principles every day will assist anyone to become a better person, and a better practitioner of the Usui System of Natural Healing (or Usui Reiki Ryoho).

These are the Reiki Ideals as communicated by the founder, Mikao Usui:
(This is the version of translation from The International Center for Reiki Training)

The secret art of inviting happiness
The miraculous medicine of all diseases
Just for today, do not anger
Do not worry and be filled with gratitude
Devote yourself to your work and be kind to people
Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer,
Pray these words to your heart and chant these words with your mouth
Usui Reiki Treatment for improvement of body and mind

Can anyone learn Reiki?
Yes! Reiki is a pure form of healing not dependent on individual talent or acquired ability. Reiki is simply passed on from teacher to student, and is easily learned by anyone.

Reiki is transferred to the student by the Reiki Master during an attunement process. This process opens the energetic centers, especially the crown, heart, and palm chakras, allowing the person to become ‘fine-tuned’ to give and receive Reiki healing energy. Once you have received a Reiki attunement, you will be attuned to Reiki for the remainder of your life. It does not wear off and you can never lose it. Yet, while one attunement is all you need to be attuned to each ‘level’ of Reiki, experience has shown that it is beneficial to receive multiple Reiki attunements because additional attunements can help refine the Reiki energy one is channeling, increase the strength of the energy, help heal personal problems, bring clarity of mind, increase psychic sensitivity, and a generally raise your level of “Awakened” consciousness.

If you are interested in learning more about Reiki and becoming a Reiki practitioner, please register for one of our Reiki classes.

Is Reiki a religious practice?

No. Rieki is a healing method. The founder of Reiki wanted to make Reiki available to all people, regardless of their religious or spiritual beliefs. There is no religious dogma associated with Reiki. It is true, however, that your religious or spiritual beliefs can enhance all forms of healing including Reiki. Reiki is part of and connect us to a greater human spiritual experience.

Is this Reiki stuff real?
Yes, Reiki is real. People all over the world experience Reiki daily. Reiki is a phenomenon that can only be known through experience.  Some research studies have been conducted on Reiki and its outcomes.

Will I feel anything during the Reiki session?

Some people just don’t sense anything during session. Not to worry. Reiki is working.  You may feel tingling sensations or relaxation.

It is also good to know that Reiki has free will. Anyone can choose to reject Reiki energy, as it cannot be forced on another person. . if you feel, think or intend that you are closed to receiving Reiki, you will not receive it.

Do you recommend having multiple Reiki sessions?

Yes. The benefit of Reiki is accumulative, the more treatment you receive the stronger and greater the benefit.  Just as regular massage sessions, so does regular Reiki keep your energy flowing. The Reiki founders themselves gave many Reiki treatments to heal sometimes for hours and months. Learning Reiki for yourself, your family and your friends is highly recommended.

21-Day cleansing after each Attunement

[Article obtained from the internet]

After a Reiki attunement, your bodies, both physical and energetic, will become acclimated to the new energy you are working with in a twenty-one day period.

The physical body has spent years gradually stiffening, collecting blocks, and storing toxins that it wasn’t able to eliminate right away.  As Reiki runs in your body, it will start releasing some of these blocks.  As body cells vibrate at a faster rate, they will expel some of the toxins they have stored.  As body cells vibrate faster, they will loosen and allow circulation into places it has bypassed for some time.  All of this puts new demands on the body’s systems of balance.  The cleansing process can take the form of increased elimination: through the bowels, which may loosen, or through mucus, which may increase in the nasal passages, or through the skin where you may sweat more or slough off more cells.  Realize that these processes are natural and temporary and that they herald a new level of wellness.

During this time you may also experience detoxification on mental and emotional levels.  You may have memories come up to be dealt with and released.  This is a natural part of healing.  It is like your healing has gone into an accelerated mode for three weeks.  You may find that you want to do a physical house or office cleaning.  This will help change and improve the energies of your home and office.

Try to meet what comes with openness and acceptance; you will be healthier in the long run.  You can benefit from keeping a journal during this process.  It can be very healing to open to your inner wisdom.  Observe yourself with detached compassion.  You will learn a lot about yourself and be able to let go of unwanted and negative emotions.

You can do a lot of healing while you sleep; your dreams will have a lot to teach you at this time.  Consider leaving a notebook by your bed each night and suggesting to yourself that you will remember your dreams.  Over the three weeks, you will find your memory of your dreams will improve, and you will have a new and powerful tool on your healing journey.

Some sources suggest that during this time, adjustments cycle through each chakra every three days, starting at the root and working up.  Use any of the centering exercises to establish a habit of grounding and centering yourself.

Take very good care of yourself on all levels.  Try to eat a healthy diet.  Drink lots of water to help flush your body out.  Try to extricate yourself from contentious situations and spend some time each day in meditation or quiet, peaceful contemplation.

Let go of any unwanted emotions.  Feed your soul with beauty: listen to music, engage in any creative hobbies that you enjoy, and try to spend some time each day in the healing beauty of nature.  Now is the time to establish and renew healthy and healing habits.

And now you have Reiki to help you through the process.  Make a point of giving yourself Reiki daily.  If you can’t manage a full self-session each day, do what you can; I suggest that you put your hands on your body as you fall asleep, asking that the energy will work with you as you sleep.  Get plenty of rest.  Be gentle with yourself.

SELF-REIKI:  Caring for the Care Giver

Most people who learn Reiki grew up with the directive to take care of others before taking care of themselves.  This way of thinking demands that we make an effort to rest and rejuvenate only after we attend to all other responsibilities.  The extra time or energy that might be devoted to self-care has never been easy to find. This is especially true for mothers and another reason why the airlines always demonstrate at the beginning of a flight:

Should the oxygen masks drop, remember to place the mask on yourself first

before placing it on your child or anyone else in your care.”

If this does not happen, you would pass out and where would your loved one be without you.  Taking care of oneself is not selfish, it is practical – for where would one be because an empty vessel has nothing to offer.  In order to help others, we must first be full within ourselves.  Reiki is a way of achieving this fullness with little effort or time yet the practice yields tremendous benefits for the caregiver.  Reiki opens us to absorbing more of the vital life energy that ultimately directs and encourages all healing processes.  This power helps us stay attuned and alighted within ourselves, keeping obstruction and exhaustion at a minimum and encouraging our healing resources to flow freely from within.

When would you use Reiki on yourself?

Use Reiki  when you are:

You can even use Reiki when you feel good because it builds energy reserves for when life becomes challenging.  Reiki will help you sail smoothly through it.  Reiki helps you through grueling days and tight schedules.

You can also use Reiki as a meditation practice starting five minutes in the morning and at night and slowly working up to 20 minutes a day.  Reiki helps you feel calm, confident and strong.  It helps you gain clarity of the mind and spirit.

For a Self-Practice Session:  Remember to place your hands firmly, burt gently on the body, remaining in each position for three to five minutes, or longer if desired.  Allow each position to flow gently into the next.  Some people do not feel anything while giving themselves a Reiki treatment while others experience warm, soothing, comforting sensations as they move through the different positions.  When you put your Reiki-initiated hands on your body and then follow the form like a recipe, you are receiving nourishing, revitalizing life-force energy even if you do not register any sensations.

You may choose to spend more time in one position or use a Spot Reiki Treatment.  A Spot Reiki Treatment is used during a self-treatment session when you feel tension, heat, coolness or other sensation which needs attention.

My favorite self-treatment spot is my heart chakra.  I just rest my hands on my heart and hold the intention for my highest healing good.  I usually feel the transformative vibrations flowing into my deepest being, calming and nourishing my soul.  The more I self-treat, my mind rests on compassion and peace, and I notice that I just naturally let go of all that no longer serves my unique life purpose.  I always feel lighter and more joyful after this heart-felt meditation.

You may also use Reiki:

____after an injury to an area of the body

____on a headache

____on an overstretched muscle

____to help you go into sleep after a stressful day

____on your office chair

____after an argument

____before a sports event

____sitting in a meeting

____watching television

____attending a concert

____waiting at a traffic light

____standing in the check-out line

____when studying

____when trying to solve a problem

____when trying to overcome an addiction

Since Reiki can be received while one’s consciousness attends to other issues at hand, you can send yourself Reiki while you are going about your normal day without taking any extra time out for it.

And for those who desire new knowledge, you can set the intention to have access to information you desire.  Reiki will guide you as it magnetizes you to receive what you desire.

Reiki is a profoundly simple and effective life tool which assists in the healing and transformation necessary for each person’s evolution.  Reiki meets us where we are and gently moves us forward providing support for doing the work we were born to do.  Reiki helps us know our purpose and manifest it with strength, vitality, and ease.

Reiki helps you take care of yourself.

It is your personal mentor.

REIKI teaches REIKI.

Use it, enjoy it an honor it for the Devine energy that it is.  One way you honor the energy is by activating it and allowing it to help, heal and guide you. ❤
